Since the global financial crisis, the Chinese government has focused on policies to expand domestic demand to sustain growth momentum. Recognizing the huge potential of the rural distribution market, the Standing Committee of the State Council kicked off the reform of the supply and marketing corporations in the field. Among agricultural product retailers, New Cooperation Joint-Stock Trade Chain takes up one third of the retail sales of agricultural products, establishing itself as the leader in the rural distribution market. Accordingly, it has received much attention and is expected to draw large investments from the government and private sector.
