Cultural Integration: Overseas M&A Integration

Chinese firms are increasingly seeking overseas M&A in order to boost growth and tap new markets. This strategy, however, poses substantial challenges for Chinese firms that are still maturing. In April 2007, TCL announced substantial losses on reorganization of the group's recently acquired European operations. Furthermore, large state-owned firms like China Mobile, Chery and SAIC are also seeking M&A opportunities worldwide. As Chinese companies continue to go abroad, issues of cultural integration have grown in prominence. The examples of TCL and SAIC provide valuable lessons for other companies.
