1. Industry: Nokia's New Smart-Phone Strategy

  • In April 2007, Nokia launched its “beta testing lab,” a place where customers can directly experience its new smartphones, and the Nokia Web Server for mobile download services. These programs enable mobile phones to be used as servers, making it possible to register and control personal cell phones through various other systems such as personal computers.

    Along with the increasing sophistication of smartphones, competition is flaring up in mobile phone operating systems. The new strategy of Nokia for the promotion of the Symbian operating system is aimed at realizing network effects that will expand this already burgeoning market.
