1. Economy: Expansion Backlash Hits Multinational Companies

  • In July 2007, LG Electronics China decided to lay off a majority of workers whowere with the company for 5 to 9 years. Oracle and Wal-Mart have also facedsimilar difficult decisions in cutting their staff. This is the inevitable result of hasty expansion.

2. Industry:Haier, HP Lock Horns

  • Summer promotion is increasingly regarded by PC makers as the most critical marketing period. Haier PC fired the first shot of the summer competition when it unveiled its summer promotion strategy on June 8, 2007. HP rolled out is full-scale summer promotion on July 6, the first of its kind in its 20-year presence in China.
