I. Economy

At the fourth East Asia Summit held in October 2009, Japanese Prime Minister Yukio Hatoyama proposed the idea of an East Asian community. The gist of the proposal was that an East Asian community would enable South Korea, Japan and China to enhance mutual trust based on continuous cultural exchange and economic cooperation. The report analyzes the possibility of launching an East Asian community amid globalization, and regionalism.

II. Industry

China Unicom and Apple teamed up to market iPhones in China under the brand name of "UniPhone." However, controversy is flaring up over the excessive high price of the UniPhone. Unlike iPhones, which sold like hot cakes in the US and Europe, UniPhone achieved lower than expected results. China Unicom plans to gain the competitive advantage against China Mobile by attracting high-end customers with a high price strategy. This high price strategy aims to increase fixed incomes through China Unicom's wireless data services rather than through the sale of UniPhone handsets.
