Telecommunications and broadcasting are converging at an accelerated rate with the rising popularity of Internet streaming video. In July 2006, Hanaro Telecom, Korea's second-largest broadband service provider, entered the market segment with "Hana TV," a video-on-demand TV portal service. It attracted more than 200,000 subscribers within five months of its debut. Meanwhile, the C-Cube consortium, led by Korea's largest telecom carrier Korea Telecom, and another consortium led by Daum, an Internet portal site, began trial tests of its Internet Protocol TV (IPTV) service at the end of 2006.
