In August, car production and exports showed a sharp increase due to a base effect from the previous year. According to the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy, the number of cars produced in Korea logged 342,624 vehicles in August, up 44.3% year-on-year. The ministry attributed the rise to a base effect caused by major manufacturers' strikes last year. As for export, a total of 230,480 vehicles were shipped overseas, rising 38.9% from August last year. The strong export was also driven by a base effect.
