The consumer sentiment index (CSI) rebounded in May. The Bank of Korea (BOK) reported that the CSI gained 2 points to mark 104 in May from the previous month. A CSI reading over 100 indicates optimists over the nation's economy outnumber the pessimists. The government's supplementary budget plan and the central bank's benchmark interest rate cut boosted expectations for an economic recovery, the BOK said. Also attributed was the alleviated North Korea risk, the BOK said. Specifically, the rise in the CSI for current economic conditions and economic outlook leaped 5 points to 79 and 9 points to 97, respectively, month-on-month. The index gauging current and future living standards each rose 1 point to 91 and 98. Meanwhile, the expected inflation for coming 12 months came in at 2.9% in May, down 0.2 percentage point from April.
